Kannawidan Ylocos Festival
Ilocos Sur, a beautiful province located in the northern part of the Luzon. It is province rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. To show and share their treasures to the whole world, the locals conceived a festival, which they called it the "Kannawidan Festival" that highlights these cultural traditions. It is held on January 28 to February 17, every year.
Kannawidan Festival is mainly celebrated in Vigan City. The old and the new Ilocano culture are both being featured in this year's Kannawidan Ylocos Festival, the festival of Ilocos Sur that celebrates its being a separate province from Ilocos Norte. The festival opened with the residents' expression of gratitude to the blessings of God. A Holy Mass con-celebrated at Saint Paul Cathedral in Vigan City and the procession afterwards. Ilocanos gather in their religious events on special feast days of patron saints.
Many activities, games and contests were held during the celebration, most of these are street dances and other street performances. Locals showcased their talents and revived traditional practices that Ilocano elders passed, but made it more meaningful. It is truly a celebration that signifies the pride of the Ilocano Culture.
